Traditional Radiator Valves

One of the wonders of living in the UK is that there are often buildings which are hundreds of years old sitting almost side by side with newer structures built within the past few decades. It is in trying to maintain those older buildings, many of which are on the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.

When replacing a faulty radiator or radiator valve in one of these buildings, it just wouldn’t do to add a trendy designer radiator which is why there is still a demand for traditional radiators and traditional radiator valves. Whether you are in need of a traditional radiator and valve for a listed building or are simply looking to replicate a period long past, we carry a large selection of radiators and traditional radiator valves to choose from.

Of course you are always offered the option of using a traditional radiator valve with a contemporary radiator, but most often this style of valve is best suited for radiator such as those found in our cast iron selection of truly authentic appearing replicas. Keep in mind that traditional radiator valves are mostly manual and that if you are looking for a thermostatic valve there are few selections available.

These are all designed to be replicas of radiator valves that were used in earlier times although there may be some selections within the thermostatic radiator section that just might work aesthetically. Even so, if you have an old cast iron radiator or are looking to replace a worn or defective valve you would surely want a traditional radiator valve. We currently have seven main styles of traditional radiator valves of which only one is thermostatic.

Crosshead Radiator Valves – Even though all of our traditional valves look as though they came from a period long ago the Crosshead Radiator Valves are remarkably authentic in appearance as well as in function. They come in either straight or angled types as well as being available in chrome, nickel or antique copper.

Minimalist Radiator Valves – The Minimalist Radiator Valves are designed by a UK manufacturer, Aeon, and are actually reminiscent of valves which would have been seen in homes in the mid part of the last century. We carry them in chrome, white or nickel and also have straight or angled versions in stock.

Black and Brass Radiator Valves – One of our best selling traditional radiator valves is the Black & Brass which looks amazing with any of our cast iron radiators. These are sold in pairs and are not available in the newer thermostatic version as they are manually operated only. The amount of heat you get is directly proportionate to how far opened or closed the valve is. Black & Brass valves are only available in the angled type.

Traditional TRV Radiator Valves – As the only one of our traditional thermostatic radiator valves, this is a best seller. Available in brushed nickel, antique brass, antique copper, polished brass or chrome, this is one of the most versatile of all traditional valves we carry. As well, unlike other types of thermostatic valves, this model is designed to be used with traditional heating systems so it is only available in the angled version.

Worcester Radiator Valves – As are all of the traditional radiator valves we carry in stock, the Worcester is truly authentic both in appearance and function. This, too, is a manual radiator valve which is not available in thermostatic control. You can however choose a finish which best complements your radiator and décor as it is available in chrome, brass, antique brass, antique copper and brushed nickel. If you have a cast iron radiator such as the Victorian 2, this would be an ideal choice of valves.

TRC Radiator Valves – Some of our customers refer to the TRC radiator valve as one that looks as though it belongs in a home built in the 50’s or 60’s. Although we carry this model in brass, antique brass or satin nickel, the most popular finish is chrome which was truly popular during that era.

Classic Radiator Valves – The handle on the Classic radiator valve is what sets this apart from all others. Rather than a round knob, this has a single handle which is spun to regulate the amount of water or steam. We carry both straight and angled versions so that it can be used with either floor or wall mounted radiators and the finish is bronze. This is truly a remarkable piece of hardware.

This just wouldn’t be the UK without the ever present radiators that grace so many homes old and new. Customers visiting our site for the first time are amazed at the wide range of radiators and radiator valves we carry which can complement any décor imaginable. We have shipped traditional radiator valves to listed buildings which needed authentic replicas as well as to newer homes with traditional interior design.

One thing we would like you to be aware of is that it is always wise to replace radiator valves when replacing a worn or broken radiator. This will not only provide you with hardware that coordinates well with your new radiator but it also saves on the cost of labour. If your radiator has outlived its life span you can probably bet that the valves will need to be replaced as well.

By replacing the valves with the radiator you only need the plumber or heating contractor to come out once which is much cheaper in the long run. If you have any questions on which valve is most suited, give us a call on 0800 055 6450. Our staff will help you in any way they can.
